Smoke alarm with battery

Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery!

Residential Fire Systems Inc. wants to remind you to change the batteries in your home smoke detectors when you change the time on your clocks for Fall.

Each year, an estimated 890 lives could be saved if all homes had properly working smoke detectors. By taking the effort to change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year, you help ensure added safety to you and your family year round. Here are other tips to help keep your smoke detectors saving lives:

  • Vacuum regularly or dust smoke detectors to keep them in good working condition
  • Smell and listen for leaky gas connections. If you believe there is a gas leak, immediately leave the house and leave the door(s) open.
  • Replace smoke detectors every 10 years
  • Do NOT disable smoke detectors, not even temporarily
  • Develop and practice a home escape plan so that everyone at home knows what to do if a smoke detector goes off

Please remember that fire prevention is your best course of action to keep fires from destroying your property and endangering your life and loved ones. Always play an active role when it comes to safety and learn more about other ways to fireproof your homes.
